Family Law During Covid-19

Last week, East Bay Business Exchange Member and family law attorney, Jennifer Navalle shared an update on the family court system during Covid-19.

Covid-19 has turned our world upside down and the resources provided through our family law system for families have been impacted as well.

East Bay Business Exchange member and family law attorney, Jennifer Navalle, presented an update on general family law issues. Jennifer reviewed the areas that fall under family law which include premarital and postnuptial agreements and mediation, property division, and post-judgment modifications. During Covid-19, all family law hearings are being conducted remotely unless the Court finds good cause to have an in-person heading. While the Court is open for limited, essential services, including emergency ex parte requests regarding the health, safety, and welfare of children, these services must be strictly limited for the protection of the public and Court personnel.

Unfortunately, this time period has also seen an increase in domestic violence. October is National Domestic Violence month and domestic violence is not only stalking and physical abuse but also includes harassment, intimidation, threats, financial, emotional, verbal, and psychological abuse. Situations involving domestic violence and restraining orders may be viewed as emergency orders in our court system. As a local family law attorney with SEO Family Law, Jennifer offers experienced, guidance and assistance with issues around family law.
